2015 “kNOw MORE” Pre-Conference and Conference

The Guam Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence is happy to announce that registration is open for our 2015 “kNOw MORE” Pre-Conference and Conference

Both will be held at the Westin Resort and Spa, Tumon 
from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Check-in begins at 7:30 AM.

The conference registration link is:

“kNOwing MORE: Responding to Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Survivor Needs” Training



The Guam Coalition Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence (GCASAFV) presents the “kNOwing MORE: Responding to Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Survivor Needs” Training conducted in partnership with the National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH) and Prevention Education and Community Empowerment (PEACE) office - Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (GBHWC).

The training will occur from Thursday, June 25, 2015 to Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the Holiday Resort & Spa, Tumon with different topics each day.

Registration is free.
Seats are limited so please register early.
Check-in begins at 8:00 AM.

Who should attend?
Victim service providers and advocates in programs designed to address sexual assault, domestic violence, and other forms of gender-based violence; social workers, and systems advocates; and community leaders engaged in efforts to ending the violence. Through funding from the NSVRC/NFL, GCASAFV is conducting this training for all those who provide hotline services and we recognize and hope that victims of sexual violence may reach out to one of the many hotline services on Guam.

Day 1: Thursday, June 25, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the training will feature:
Morning Session:
•   Safety Planning/Legal Basics
•   Sexual Violence/Friends and Family
Afternoon Session (conducted by PEACE Office, GBHWC):
•   safeTALK (limited to the first 25 people who register)
Three-hour training that prepares anyone over the age of 15 to identify persons with thoughts of suicide, and to address them with the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen, Keep-Safe), connecting callers to suicide first aid, and intervention caregivers.

Day 2: Friday, June 26, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the training will feature sessions on:
•  Connections between Power, Control and Violence in our Society
•  Crisis Intervention/Guiding Principles
•   Active Listening/Compassion Fatigue & Fostering Resilience
•   Pregnancy, Children, Custody

Day 3: Saturday, June 27, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the training will feature sessions on:
•   Crisis Intervention/Guiding Principles
•   Active Listening/Compassion Fatigue & Fostering Resilience
•   Safety Planning/Legal Basics
•   Sexual Violence/Friends and Family

Norma Vicenta Amezcua
NDVH Director of Quality Assurance – Contract Compliance
Norma has worked in the field of domestic violence and social services for more than 19 years as a passionate and active advocate for families affected by abuse and families that are at-risk, Norma is deeply committed to this work. She has been the director of several dynamic domestic violence programs, leading both services and staff. Her expertise includes management of the National Domestic Violence Hotline, domestic violence shelters, transitional housing programs, domestic violence hotlines, counseling programs, and working with domestic violence in the military. She is bilingual in English and Spanish as well as bicultural and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego.

Rosemary Rade
Manager of Digital Services
Rosemary Rade has worked in the social services field for over eight years, as both an advocate providing direct services, and in her current role in management. As one of the first advocates on the National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline in 2007 (now known as Loveisrespect), Rosemary refined her skills in crisis intervention, and providing education and information about dating abuse. After a transition to working as a phone advocate on the NDVH, she became a member of the Wellness and Training Team. Members of the team are responsible for facilitating the NDVH 40-hour training, and developing and facilitating wellness sessions for advocates on the Hotline. During her years as a Hotline advocate and Training Team member, Rosemary trained, mentored, and supported numerous advocates in their roles at the Hotline. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish from Saint Edward’s University in Austin, TX.
